The Science Behind VIROLYZE

Our specialized ionization process converts H2O and NaCl into anolyte components.

The resulting hypochlorous acid anolyte biocide is 100% biodegradable,  reverting to harmless salt and water.

  • Hypochlorous Acid is the scientific formula name.

  • The full title is Hypochlorous Acid Anolyte Biocide, it is a weak acid like orange juice, but with Hypochlorous, it’s considered nature’s germ killer.

  • Hypochlorous is naturally produced in the white blood cells of all mammals.

  • The white blood cells make it as needed to kill pathogens, including viruses, bacteria, and fungus.

  • Hypochlorous has been used in the medical field for years and has many studies supporting its results across numerous treatments and therapies.

  • Hypochlorous chemistry is used in many ways: for eye infections, to kill germs in neo-natal hospital wards with preemie babies, for eczema, to cleanse Stage IV diabetic ulcer, and to kill bacteria on produce in grocery stores through produce misters.

  • Hypochlorous chemistry is approved for use by both large governing bodies: the EPA for surface disinfecting and the FDA for use on skin and food/produce.

  • Hypochlorous is even used to extend the life of fresh flowers, eliminate germs on raw eggs, and help rice plants grow faster.

Nature’s Perfect Germ Killer

Our products are based on a patented process; the active ingredient in VIROLYZE is Hypochlorous Acid (HOCL), a substance the human body produces to kill germs, protect, and heal itself. All mammals make it and have for 40 million years.

The diagram on the right shows how Hypochlorous is produced in the human body and how it kills pathogens.

Pathogens invade the body by entering the skin through a wound site.

Neutrophils (a type of white blood cell) come to the invaders and surround one.

After surrounding, the neutrophil produces Hypochlorous Acid to kill it.

VIROLYZE products work by following the same modality.

Hypochlorous Scent and Questions About Bleach:

  • Hypochlorous has a unique faint smell that is undetectable to some users, while some equate it to a spa or the ocean, while some confuse it with a faint bleach smell.

  • Hypochlorous (HOCl) is not bleach. Laundry bleach is Sodium Hypochlorite (NaCIO).

More Comparisons and Facts to Know

  • Natural: “Bleach” (Sodium Hypochlorite) is a human-made chemical never found in nature; Hypochlorous is naturally in all mammals’ immune systems.

  • Safety: “Bleach” as a germ-killing disinfectant is legally required to have multiple warnings and safety hazard precautions on their labels. Hypochlorous germ-killing disinfectants are exempt from warnings and first aid labels.

  • Fumes: “Bleach” fumes are dangerous, causing irritation and severe damage to respiratory systems and eyes. Hypochlorous has zero dangers with respiratory systems or eyes.

The Making of VIROLYZE Disinfectant

VIROLYZE is effective because of the hypochlorous acid present in the solution. Hypochlorous acid is naturally produced by the human body to fight microbes. Hypochlorous acid also is the prime disinfectant ingredient in chlorine-based disinfectants, like bleach. However, bleach can have harmful side effects. ECA extracted only the microbe destroying agent in chlorine-based disinfectants, as it is naturally produced in the human body. ECA is effective at destroying microbes and is harmless to humans and warm-blooded animals.

In order to maximize the effectiveness of the hypochlorous acid, VIROLYZE produces ECA with a pH between 6 - 7. As seen in the graph below, when the anolyte water is produced at such a neutral or slight acidic state, hypochlorous acid mainly is present.

If we were to produce the anolyte solution at a more acidic pH, closer to 2.0, then more chlorine gas would be present. Chlorine gas is toxic and needs to be added to water to form the disinfecting agent. When chlorine gas is added to water, the risk of THM’s also are present, which pose a threat. Along with more risks to the manufacturer and user of this anolyte solution, lower pH anolyte solutions are corrosive, while near-neutral pH anolyte solutions are not corrosive.

If we were to produce the anolyte solution at a more basic pH, closer to 10.0, there would be more sodium hypochlorite than hypochlorous acid. Sodium hypochlorite is the main ingredient in bleach. While sodium hypochlorite does disinfect, it requires more strength and careful handling than hypochlorous acid.

The production of VIROLYZE allows us to maximize the effectiveness of hypochlorous acid. Look at the chart below and see why hypochlorous acid is the most effective antimicrobial agent.

How Can I Trust These Claims?

The EPA heavily regulates disinfectant products and all statements about  VIROLYZE have been tested by outside testing laboratories and approved by the EPA.
